This was an interesting night. The seats and space implied a type of musical/theater performance. But having a bar and a three hour show without intermission made it seem more like a bar show. There were people drinking (liberally) and others shusshing them. Nobody really knew exactly how to behave. Which suited the band just fine. Especially for our unveiling with our shiny new rhythm section! It sure kept people alert and interested in what was coming next.
We also had a couple of special guests. Derek Dibbern ran the sound board for us and performed a set in the middle, giving the band a rest. Tony Ray was also in town with his trumpet and added some great textures to the songs.
All in all, this gig was a smashing success. We sold out way ahead of time with minimal advertising or promotion. The atmosphere was absolutely electric. And the band pretty much killed. We'd been rehearsing quite a bit...and were chomping at the bit to play for someone other than Vince's dogs.
